The spectacular international Rajyog of Narendra Damodardas Modi

bright-1866986_640There is a concept in India called Rajyog, a period in which a king will reign and flourish, while all his enemies will perish. Those who ally with him will prosper and those oppose him will bite the dust.

Narendra Modi saw a spectacular rise from 2012–14 during which he won almost every State Assembly election he campaigned for and he made Prime Minister of India by reducing a party which had ruled much of India to a record low and abysmal 44/543 seats (8%) in Parliament while he led his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to 282 seats in the May 2014 general elections.

All his regional rivals perished one by one but when he looked at the international stage, the same thing started happening there too. Probably his biggest regional rival when he took over was Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa. India first backed the dreaded LTTE (Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam) and then fought them with disastrous results, losing a war and then former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.

Rajapaksa beat the LTTE and then warmed up to China, much to the chagrin of India who looked on helplessly. When Modi took over, Rajapaksa was at his peak and looked good to win in 2015 and rule till 2020. And then in January 2015, out of the blue, Rajapaksa lost. Absolutely nobody saw that coming. Rajapaksa tried to be Prime Minister the same year, but lost that too. The new Sri Lanka leadership is much more amenable to working with Modi and is not openly baiting Modi the way Rajapaksa was.

israel-2131247_640India was a rare non-Muslim country which opposed the creation of Israel in the United Nations and did nothing to mend ties with that country till 1991. Till 2014 the ties between the two countries got better and better but they didn’t create much fuss.

Then it all came out of the closet after Modi took over and he and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu formed a mutual admiration society and started praising each other and promising everyone their ties would be taken to the next level.

A few months after Rajapaksa was defeated, Netanyahu went to the polls and the consensus was that he would be defeated. In a surprise verdict he wasn’t. Against all odds, he emerged triumphant and now he and Modi are seriously cementing ties between India and Israel.

A few months after Netanyahu’s victory, there were elections in the United Kingdom. David Miliband is a good friend of Modi’s rival and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi. When David visited Rahul, the two spent the night in a Dalit’s hut in an Uttar Pradesh village. Rahul also posted photos of the two on social media when they met in Aspen.

Prime Minister David Cameron on the other hand seemed more aligned with Modi. #AbKiBaarModiSarkaar (This time a Modi government) was a catchy slogan of the 2014 polls. When Cameron met an Indian journalist, he said #AbKiBaarCameronSarkaar! In the UK elections Cameron was either supposed to lose or a hung Parliament was to favour Labour led by David’s brother Ed Miliband.

In a shocker, Cameron thrashed Miliband 330–232 as the former did well even in Labour bastions and the latter was forced to retire. Another friend of Modi had won a surprising victory. Another Modi catchy slogan was #AccheDin (Good days). When Cameron stood with Modi in Wembley Stadium, he declared, “Acche din zaroor aayenge” (Good days will definitely come)

Then Theresa May replaced Cameron and surprisingly she started moving Left and away from both the ideologies of Modi and US President Donald Trump and she is quite on shaky ground.

Talking of Trump and the US Presidential elections. Democratic hopeful Hillary Clinton could be classified as a Modi hater. As Secretary of State, she ensured that US President Barack Obama was lukewarm to India.

hillary-41775_640Hillary has been a known Modi baiter and if she became US President, their ties would be quite rocky. While Trump has made a few digs about outsourcing, he has by and large been appreciative of the India story under Modi and praised him publicly on many occasions.

Modi and Trump have many things in common. Both are from the Right, have been attacked by the media, liberals and intellectuals. Both have a keen business sense and are straight talkers.

Read: Eerie similarities between reactions to Modi and Trump…

There is no doubt that Modi would have rather done business with Trump rather than Hillary. And guess what? Before the campaign began in 2015, most analysts said that Trump would not even make it to the Top 5 in the Republican race and Hillary would clinch her nomination in no time. Well Trump officially secured his nomination before Hillary and then thrashed her in the polls.

donald-trump-2005343_640Today Trump will be regularly found rubbishing Pakistan and praising Modi. Trump is growing more powerful by the day no matter what his haters are trying to tell you. Most world leaders have already warmed up to Modi. Even Trump’s predecessor Obama is a fan and actually installed a White House hotline with India. At a meet long ago he ran up to Modi, got hold of his hands and declared, “You’re the man!”

The two got together and revived the almost dead Indo-US nuclear deal. Modi surprised everyone by inviting Obama to be chief guest at India’s Republic Day parade in 2015. Obama surprised everyone by accepting the decision almost immediately.

While Saudi Arabia and Pakistan have had good ties for decades, no Pakistani head of State got the highest civilian honour, but it was bestowed on Modi. With that he joined an elite group of international leaders who had won that award. While America-Israel-Saudi Arabia is forming a troika in West Asia and isolating everyone there, India needn’t worry because it has excellent relations with all three.

Modi then got Afghanistan’s top civilian honour too. And to think he was dismissed as anti-Muslim once upon a time! Underworld Dawood Ibrahim operated with impunity in Karachi, but after Modi came to power, he may have been shifted to the border (if he’s not already dead) and his assets have been neutralized in Dubai because even UAE is warming up to Modi!

When Russian President Vladimir Putin was facing problems with Turkey, he asked Modi whether he could pick up Turkey’s business in case of a crisis. While a Russia-Turkey patch-up is underway, Putin still wants a special relationship with Modi.

abe-shinzo-867817_1280Japan Prime Minister Shinzo Abe follows very few people on Twitter. The third person he followed was Modi. It is difficult to believe that Modi was an unknown quantity on the world stage till 2014. After Abe signed a Bullet Train with Modi, he also got a surprise victory at the hustings. He has completed 5 years in office, a rarity for Japan premiership wracked by non-stop resignations.

In a Rajyog your friends do well and your rivals don’t. In the 2014 elections the previous Congress low was 114 seats in 1999 but with 44 in 2014 they couldn’t even officially claim the Leader of the Opposition status in the Lok Sabha. The next largest party was the ADMK and its leader Jayalalithaa died unfortunately but her successor Sasikala was convicted. A post-Sasikala ADMK has warmed up to Modi. After that comes the TMC and its leader Mamata Baneerjee too is under a cloud in the Saradha scam case and a total law and order break-down in West Bengal.

JDU’s Nitish Kumar split with the BJP and actually won the Bihar elections in 2015, but he was also forced to return to the BJP despite being a Modi hater once upon a time. The Shiv Sena allied with the BJP in Maharashtra but keeps attacking Modi and is getting weaker in the State. In fact in the recent statewide rural elections, BJP came first and the Congress distant second. Sena was behind the Congress!

india-712575_1920Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrabau Naidu warmed up to Modi and saw a surprise victory in 2014. New Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal may have beaten Modi in Delhi, but he stands totally neutralized at the national level. From 1947-2013, the Congress had the most MLAs in India save for a brief period in 1977-1980 when the Janata Party went ahead, but they weren’t really single party but a coalition.

Modi took over as campaign chief in 2013 and for the first time ever the BJP overtook the Congress in 2015. It didn’t stop there. Today the Congress has around 800 MLAs while the BJP is in the region of 1400. It’s a no contest and that’s one factor hardly highlighted by the media. In fact in the Top 15 Indian States by population, Congress rules only 1, unprecedented for the Grand Old Party. If they lose Karnataka in 2018, it may be Game Over for them.

narendra-modi-2112081_640Modi is supreme in India and has no rival. On the world stage he stands tall too.

It is only the Indian mainstream media, Civil Society  and so called intellectuals who is trying to create a fake narrative that he is on shaky ground and faces tests every day and they are coming out with fake campaigns like the one related to intolerance.

Meanwhile, the spectacular Rajyog of Modi marches on!

5 reasons why Narendra Modi + entrepreneurship = Kamaal ki Jodi!

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is one of the most business-friendly Prime Ministers of Independent India. He has been very gung-ho about entrepreneurs right from his days as Gujarat Chief Minister.

Here are some of the reasons why Modi has ensured that entrepreneurship has grown in India and he will continue to do so…

boats-2332017_640The Gujjubhai business brain: There is an apocryphal story that hundreds of years ago, Portuguese explorer Vasco da Gama followed a Gujarati trader to discover a sea route to India.

Whatever be the truth of this story, it does symbolize the historic initiative of the traders and merchants of Gujarat. Even today Gujarat is the land of the entrepreneur. Jamsetji Tata in the nineteenth century to Dhirubhai Ambani in the twentieth century to Gautam Adani’s rapid rise in the twenty-first, they all have Gujarat in common.

Entrepreneurship comes naturally to Gujarat and Modi nurtured it in his Gujarat days. Modi took over the State in 2001. He launched Vibrant Gujarat in 2003 where MoUs were signed for an investment for US$14 billion.

That number rapidly rose to US$462 billion in 2011. His critics say that only a fraction of that fructifies. But even that fraction is miles ahead of other states. Modi was very entrepreneur friendly in Gujarat and he’s rapidly replicating the same model for India.

Modi himself could be called an entrepreneur. While his selling tea on a railway platform is romanticized, his father had a tea stall at that time. Later Modi and his brother themselves set up a tea stall near a bus stand.

startup-593327_640Minimum Government Maximum Governance: While support from the government is one thing, the entrepreneur many a times just wants as little interference as possible. It may be possible to start a company in no time in many Western countries, but in India one may struggle for months on end without making any headway. The current government is trying to boost entrepreneurs by allowing a business to be incorporated with just one form. Called Form INC-29, the government is trying to enable fast track company registration. The application process for things like the Industrial Entrepreneur’s Memorandum has also been simplified.

The country’s License Raj from 1947 onwards stifled the entrepreneurial spirit and at that time only the first and last Indian Governor-General C Rajagopalachari cried foul. That system was dismantled by Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao from 1991 onwards, but not fully.

Modi seems to have started from where Rao left off. In fact the Planning Commission was seen part and parcel of the old regime and Modi has done away with that too for a more dynamic real-time planning which will help the fast-changing business landscape of India.

startup-2188679_640Myriad of targeted schemes: Startup India began with Rs 10,000 crore of funds and a sincere effort to reduce red tape for startups with even the Reserve Bank of India getting involved. Interestingly 5 lakh schools will be targeted for innovation programmes. Catch the entrepreneurs young is the mantra.

Make In India will help established business ramp up and new businesses to break out. Stand Up India involves loans of up to Rs 1 crore to those from the SC/ST bracket and women entrepreneurs.

The formation of the Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship was an innovative concept. Skill India aims to train 40 crore people in various skills by 2022. This involves a National Policy for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship among other things.

Former US Secretary of State John Kerry once said that he was particularly impressed with Modi’s slogan of Sabka Saath Sabka Vikaas. These are some of the components of that concept.

parliament-2028311_640The GST push: For anyone wanting to start their business and immediately go pan-India, GST Goods and Services Tax Bill is a great boon. It proposes a national Value Added Tax and promises to lead to seamless transactions across States and lessening of harassment. The Octroi Raj may finally end.

Modi pushed GST with all his might despite all the opposition and Parliamentary disruptions. Modi has shown a willingness to push for anything he feels will ease business in the country and that will translate into great gains in the long run.

The main takeaway from this is that it’s not just GST, but you can be sure that Modi will push similar bills beneficial for entrepreneurs in the future. While there may be a lot of initial confusion vis-à-vis the GST, it will ultimately settle down to something really good.

hand-1030564_640Modi is a globe trotter: #Brexit and US President Donald Trump may have made globalization a dirty word, but it will continue in one form or another. In fact now one-on-one deals between countries will be more important than trade pacts.

That’s where Modi’s globe-trotting and chemistry between world leaders will be a real boon. Modi is making the world take notice of us. For the first time ever, India has emerged as the Number 1 Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) destination in the world. India attracted FDI to the tune of $63 billion in 2015.

While there are mixed feelings about FDI helping or hindering local business, it may prove beneficial to start ups if handled correctly and they may get foreign investors and tie-ups. Though there are plenty of riders, nevertheless the government has allowed 100% FDI in the e-commerce space.

While we may see many ups and downs, the world is flat and in the long run Modi’s globalization drive will help new businesses coming out of India.

Half the world is conflicted, leave Israel and Kashmir alone

lama-1749360_640China brutally occupied Tibet in 1950 and since then has unleashed untold horrors on the Tibetans who by and large suffer in silence due to their policy of non-violence. The Dalai Lama and lakhs of other Tibetans had to flee to India.

Taiwan is also a virtually independent province and there is great tension with the mainland. Hong Kong also has a totally different character and tensions with mainland China is also are on the rise.

They talk of a Two China policy while talking about mainland China and Taiwan. But actually it is a Four China policy encompassing mainland China, Taiwan, Tibet and Hong Kong. Or call them the Disunited States of China.

Pakistan brutally occupied Baluchistan in 1948 and global media did not even bother to mention that in their news briefs and it is getting some little coverage only in the 2010s. There’s an intense war raging in North Waziristan, while there are Independence movements in Pakistan occupied Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan.

apsmartyrs-pakistan-1097310_640Pakistan has also been steadily wiping out all its minorities: Hindus, Christians, Ahmadiyyas and now Shias. The Taliban has also been crushing all those to do not subscribe to their policies in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Hindus are persecuted in Bangladesh too.

In West Asia, the Kurds and Yazidis are among the most persecuted communities as are Shias in Sunni dominated regions. In Africa, the civil wars between Muslims and Christians have been raging for decades now.

mural-539809_640While the Scotland independence movement has been peaceful, even England repressed the Northern Ireland independence movement with an iron hand. There are also low-key independence movements in Europe like Spain’s Catalonia and Basque.

The list is endless.

But if you looked at media coverage, then you’d think the only two problems were Palestine and Kashmir which get a disproportionate global attention from the Communist global media and you’d think nothing else matters.

gilbert-checkpoint-837909_640Why? Is it because Israel is the only Jewish country in the world and India the largest and among a handful of Hindu countries in the world? These two countries do not seem to have much of a say in global media and continue to be vilified by them even though many other countries have far greater problems.

8 reasons why Obama will go down as the worst President in US history

barack-obama-2009188_640Long back (it really seems ages ago now), Barack picked up his mobile and read: President Obama will go down as perhaps the worst President in the history of the United States Exclamation Point @realDonaldTrump. Then he added: At least I will go down as a President. Then he threw down the mobile for great dramatic effect and to thunderous and rapturous applause.

It was implied that at least he would go down as a President while Trump never would. That statement has been shattered to smithereens bringing into focus the first statement which could well be true.

Here are 8 reasons why Obama may well go down as the worst President in US history…

1. Ending his term with a Republican dictatorship.

When Obama won in 2008, the Democrats were in the ascendant and many predicted a Democratic dictatorship by the end of Obama’s even then two probable terms. Well the Republicans engaged in an intense battle in the US Congress that really began with the Tea Party and one must say that they walloped him black and blue.

While Obama fanboys called it obstructionist and unfair, the people of America clearly backed the Republicans. From 2010 the Republicans marched to victory upon victory capturing all the power groups that the nation has to offer. As of time of writing this article, the Republicans lead the Democrats House of Representatives 237-193 and the Senate 52-46.

white-house-13863_640They completed a hat-trick when they captured the White House. Out of the 50 States, they also control more 30+ Governorships and State legislatures. By the time Trump is done, the Supreme Court will be more Conservative than Liberal.

When Obama took over America was headed for a Democratic dictatorship. When he left America was a Republican dictatorship. In fact the Republicans have never had such a stranglehold since their foundation in 1854 and for that America has to thank Obama.

A monopoly of any one party is not good for any country and Obama will continue to meddle in US politics as everyone else in the Democratic party has been reduced to a dwarf status. A survey claimed that Obama officially become the first US President to lose more than 1000 political seats during his term for any party.

2. Leaving West Asia in total ruins.

jerusalem-1712855_640West Asia is the cornerstone of any US Presidency. Many consider Jimmy Carter as the worst Democratic President in recent history but even he brought peace with the Camp David accords between Israel and Egypt.

Nobody really knows what Obama’s West Asia policy was. Libyan dictator Muammar Gaddafi was assassinated and the country is still in limbo. Iran was allowed to continue with its nuclear programme till it almost got there and they were paid tonnes of money for god knows what.

The Iraq crisis was made worse, the Syrian war raged on and Obama looked the other way while Islamic State flourished. Saudi Arabia joined in the war party and blasted Yemen to smithereens.

Stable Turkey went rogue diplomatically and Trump will now face a dangerous Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Thanks to all that Russian President Vladimir Putin got a foothold in West Asia and now no amount of Trump bashing can change that.

Finally and curiously, Obama launched an all out diplomatic war on Israel towards the end of his term despite the fact that, for better or worse, Israel is America’s best friend in West Asia.

3. Strengthening the ultimate surveillance state.

nineteen-eighty-four-1211494_640Obama’s predecessor George W Bush laid the foundations of the ultimate surveillance state, but it was Obama who took it to dizzying heights. Every action has an equal and opposite reaction and that’s why the information leak and hacking also was unprecedented. Chelsea Manning, Julian Assange and Wikileaks. Edward Snowden and the PRISM revelations.

The globe was horrified at the colossal scale that the Obama administration was snooping on everyone in the world. Forget American citizens, even German Chancellor Angela Merkel wasn’t safe.

The Obama administration had so much information that they built the $1.5 billion 1.5 million square feet Utah Data Center to house it. It can store data in the range of exabytes, or billions of gigabytes. 65 megawatts of power will be required in a year along with millions of litres of water a day just to keep it functional.

There were reports of giant government towers across America capturing personal data of the mobiles of unwitting citizens as they passed by but as usual the mainstream media gave a free pass to Obama and totally overlooked all his faults.

If America is bad at handling data, then certain authoritarian regimes will be even worse. It is in this light that it is perplexing why Obama handed over the control of the Internet to the United Nations. So it really came as no surprise when Trump Tweeted that Obama was snooping on him during the fag days of his Presidency.

4. Hillary. Hillary. Hillary.

hillary-41775_640Conservatives detested the Clinton years from 1993-2001. Liberals detested the Bush years from 2001-09. Obama took over amidst great hope, bipartisan support and had such tremendous goodwill that he could have begun on a clean slate.

However he surprised many when he picked Hillary as his Secretary of State bringing back the toxic Clinton years. This was surprising because they had viciously attacked each other during campaigning for US President.

Hillary masterminded the absolutely dismal West Asia policy as mentioned above and her foreign policy was a total joke. Obama claimed that his Presidency was relatively scandal free but that was incorrect. Allegations of scandals swirl around the Clintons wherever they go.

Then when he should have investigated Emailgate and other scandals, he gave Hillary a clean chit and pushed her with all his might for the presidency. He oversaw the DNC partisanly pushing for Hillary over Bernie Sanders. The electorate gave such a resounding slap to Obama-Hillary that he is yet to recover and one only wonders how the Obama presidency could have been had he broken free from the Clintons in 2009.

5. Paying merely lip service to everything.

obama-356133_640Obama is charismatic. He is a great speaker. But that’s about it. He has no major achievements. He just talks fancy. It sounded great in 2008 and he got away in 2012 too. But in 2016 all his words sound vapid and hollow.

In terms of “initial promises, expectations and hope” compared to “final concrete results”, Obama is definitely the worst President in US history.

6. Gun violence and racial tension.

firearm-409000_640In today’s world we have to go by results and gun violence and racial tension soared in Obama’s tenure. Gun sales spiked every time Obama lectured America on gun violence as citizens would scramble to the nearest gun store. In fact his critics called him history’s greatest gun salesman.

Gun violence and deaths were up and racial tensions increased. Towards the end of his term the militant group Black Lives Matter went on the ascendant and they believe in shooting white policemen.

7. A highly divided America.

anarchy-152588_640Obama’s wife Michelle went saying there was no hope in America. Well that pointed more to Obama’s failed 8 years than anything else. Obama during his presidency always took the high ground, sermonizing and delivering moral lectures non-stop totally alienating his critics and detractors and widening the divide.

Instead of staying away from the highly divisive 2016 elections, he totally backed the scandal-ridden Hillary and when she lost, he tried to sabotage the coming Trump presidency from November 8 to January 20. Sanders and Hillary supporters went on the rampage against Trump during the run up to the elections. Democratic supporters tried to instigate riots after Trump was elected. Obama merely looked on with apparent tacit approval.

Now he has overseen Tom Perez as the DNC Chairman, the man who infamously declared that white people were not entitled to protection under the Voting Rights Act. Vice Chairman Keith Ellison has links with the Muslim Brotherhood, which has been declared as a terrorist organization by many countries. Ellison also blamed Jews for 9/11.

A report said that Obama diverted billions of dollars of funds to Left-wing groups. If that is true then he has to share part of the blame of Left-wing groups going on the rampage after Trump was elected President. They are still doing so.

As you can see, the divide will only increase. In fact Obama’s Attorney General recently called for more blood and death on the streets to protest Trump and the Democrats used it on their social media page as words of inspiration.

8. Trump will totally overturn the Obama legacy.

At the end of the day it depends on how history judges you and whether all your policies are taken forward or bite the dust. That way you can be sure that Trump will go all out to destroy the Obama legacy completely. In four years the Obama legacy will be dust and if Trump gets a second term then Obama will merely become a footnote in US history.

Trump has attacked Obamacare, overturned his immigration initiatives, rubbished his stand on Climate Change and cancelled his oil pipeline bans. That was just in the first few weeks of the Trump presidency.

Parting shot…

donald-trump-1708433_640They said that Trump wasn’t serious. He was.
They said that Trump wouldn’t get the Republican ticket. He did.
They said that Trump wouldn’t be President. He is.

Now these very same people are saying that Trump will not be a great President and for that reason you can put your money behind Trump.

The following looked totally improbable in 2016 but may well be true in 2025…

Trump was a really good President, but Obama was the absolute worst!

The Right, the Left and the media

journalist-985075_640Every mainstream media analysis and opinion poll is virulently pro-Left and anti-Right.
In 2014 they said it was impossible for the Right (Modi) to get 272+ seats.
Failed prediction.
In 2015 they said the Right (Netanyahu) would lose.
Failed prediction.
In 2015 they said the Right (Cameron) would see a hopelessly hung Parliament or the Left (Labour) would inch ahead.
