Great post! Really gripping one this is…quite similar to how I got hooked to the game. I hated cricket as a kid but have been hooked to it now ever since Rahul Dravid’s debut in 1996. And then there was no looking back…As an ardent fan of the game I make it point to catch all the games irrespective of the format, albeit my intrusive engineering schedules. Glad that this fanfare for the game has taken me places.

loved reading this article and the perspectives on cricket. I always wanted to get hooked with this game, but probably my interest wasn’t genuine that it sustained for long….
hopefully some day i will get hooked to it and spend all my free time watching matches..

You are a true blue Indian cricket fan! I am proud of you. Same here! I remember that period vividly. For me too matches were more important than my exams, job interviews etc etc much to the dismay of all those around me.

Whoa! I was totally hooked to this post. Remembered the 1996 World Cup semis when India lost to Sri Lanka miserably at the Eden Gardens. I had my Social Science’s board exam the next day, and not only did I watch the day-night match till the end, but I also cried after India lost, cursed the audience in Calcutta for their behaviour, blamed the loss on the audience and told my mom that her kin were responsible for the hungama (My mom is a Bengali). I slept teary-eyed, little realizing that I had the worst-feared subject’s (History) exam the next day. Who cared? After all, India’s loss was much more important than how I fared at the Board’s.
